Be a part of APEC Voices of the Future 2021
The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Philippines is pleased to invite Filipino youth leaders to APEC’s Voices of the Future 2021. This annual event will bring together young people across the Asia-Pacific to learn and discuss regional issues with APEC leaders, business leaders, and international experts.
As APEC charts a new course through the Putrajaya Vision 2040, this platform also provides the youth an opportunity to connect and collaborate to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and even better society for generations to come.
With nearly 1 billion youth in the Asia-Pacific region, the pandemic has disproportionately affected young people globally. Access to education has been a challenge as students shift to online learning, as around 830 million students do not have any digital tool or device. Young people were also left unemployed by the pandemic in far greater numbers than adults, with the effects being felt worse in lower-income economies. According to the World Economic Forum, youth employment dropped by 8.7% compared to adults registering a lower rate at 3.7% in 2020.
How this will impact the next generation will depend on the long-term actions and solutions we come up with today. To achieve this, the voices of the next generation need to be a part of the conversation.
This 2021, New Zealand will be holding the event virtually via Zoom during APEC Leaders’ Week on November 9 – 12. Five participants from each economy will have an opportunity to craft a Youth Declaration based on the following themes: international cooperation to combat COVID-19, digital future, climate change and sustainability, and a future for all.
